GREENS COTTAGE
WINTER PARK FLORIDA
CIRCA 1925
"We do these thing not because they are easy, but because we thought they were going to be easy".
Hello,
This website will follow the process of renovations and remodeling of the Historic Greens Cottage in Winter Park, FL.
We are the owners, Patrick and Kathryn. We purchased this home in May of 2021 and instantly fell in love with it. It needs a lot of TLC and vision and we are up to the task. Kathryn has been a Realtor in Central Florida for over 15 years and Patrick is an artist and designer.

Below is the before shot taken in April of 2021 and the after shot taken in March 0f 2023.

DAY 1 VIDEO WALKTHROUGH
THE REMODEL
one thing at a time
Below are the "Before" photos. They were taken on a beautiful Saturday morning on April 2, 2021. I wanted to take as many photos around the house as I could to have a starting point before the sawdust starts flying.
Here we will document the process, the trials, the do overs, the tears and the satisfaction of bringing Greens Cottage back to its original glory. Our plan is to respect the history and craftsmanship of this beautiful house while updating it for 21st century and making it our home.

THE HISTORY
Named GREENS COTTAGE, it is also known as The MATHERS/CONE HOUSE in Dubsdread Heights. It was built before 1925 by Albert Douglas Mallory of Illinois who had wintered in Orlando for a number of years before moving here in 1920.
He sold the adjacent property to his son Dr. Richard Mallory. After A.D. Mallory's death in 1930, Dr. Richard Mallory rented the house to winter residents until 1941.
He then sold it to his associate, Dr. W. Fred Mathers, a Texas native. The house was in the Mathers' residence until 1974.
Dennis Cone then bought Greens Cottage who is the great-great grandson of the man who owned the farm where Princeton School is now located.
It was then purchased by Brent & Betsy McCaghren in 1991 and in 2021 we purchased the home.

DENNIS CONE
Dennis Cone founded The Professional Caddie Association and the Caddie Hall of Fame. He owned a 1978 Winnebago that was set next to the house. Inside the motorhome was what he called "Caddie Central"displaying all of his memorabilia and also doubled as a traveling office.
Cone established the Professional Caddies Association and the Caddie Hall of Fame to celebrate professional caddies and pay homage for those who played a special role in the history of the game. Cone worked to provide young men and women the opportunity to learn and grow through the game of golf and through caddying. Cone was instrumental in inducting such legends as Charles “Chick” Evans, Francis Ouimet and Gene Sarazen into the Caddie Hall of Fame. In 2011, Cone entered into an agreement with the Western Golf Association that allowed the organization to administer the Caddie Hall of Fame and continue to honor caddies.
