MASTER BEDROOM

Both sets of windows in the master are beautiful, 100 year old windows. They easily open and close with the rope & pulley systems still in great working condition. The Problem - neglect.

These windows have terrible peeling paint and years of grime. I'm using a citrus paint stripper to get all of the cracked and chipped paint off. These windows will be painted white, so the stripping doesn't need to be perfect, but it does need to be smooth.

After this set of windows were stripped sanded and cleaned. I painted them with Benjamin Moore Window and Trim paint with a satin finish. After letting the first coat dry thoroughly, I used an orbital sander smoothing out an imperfections and then repainted.

I added some new solid brass hardware to both windows and now they're as good as new.

In cleaning and prepping the other set of windows, I noticed that someone had put tinting film on every panel of glass.

After a little research on the internet I found the best way to remove the tint is with a steamer. You just steam the adhesive and scrape with a blade. It's not difficult, but is is a little time consuming and messy. Plus, it was an extra step I wasn't expecting. You can see in the image below how dirty the trim on these windows are. It'll take a little elbow grease to get the ready for paint.

Using the steamer really helped to get a lot of the grime off. It also helped in cleaning the glass. Lucky for me I already had a steamer that I use for grout cleaning. I highly recommend getting one. I use it all of the time for a variety of clean ups. They run about $50 and are worth every penny.

You can see in the pic below, compared to the one above, how much of the grime came off the window frame just from steaming the film off the glass. You just have to be careful not to melt the paint with that hot steam. I have some more prep work to do these windows and then they will be ready for paint.

Both sets of windows are now finished and we're waiting on the window treatments to be delivered. The sun beating on the poorly insulated windows without treatments have really raised the daytime temperature in the room. I'll post pictures as the room gets closer to being finished.

We installed custom Cordless Woven Wood Shades for each of the 4 windows. No strings keep the windows looking clean and crisp and let in the perfect amount of light.

We also installed this eye catching wood beaded chandelier that creates a real statement upon entering the master bedroom.

We still have some furniture pieces to get and once this room is finished I'll post the photos.

MASTER CLOSET

At some point there was a roof leak that destroyed the ceiling in this closet. It's hard to tell in this pic, but the ceiling is complete bowed and falling down. How anyone kept their clothes in here will remain a mystery. The mirror is damaged from moisture, the "baseboards" are stickers and the walls are stained. There's also a ridiculous flickering fluorescent light taken right from the 1980's.

First was to rip down the ceiling and replace all the insulation.

Then I added new drywall and joint compound so everything was smooth and perfect.

I added a tasteful light fixture, painted the walls, added real baseboards and installed new crown moulding.

The closet is now warm and inviting as well as a safe space to keep clothes.
